A virtual tradeshow, often referred to as a virtual event or virtual tradefair, is actually just what it sounds like. It is a tradeshow that happens in an online environment. The concepts of a traditional tradeshow trying to remain the same in this online space; where the virtual tradeshow or tradefair only stays live for a certain period of time and has the expectation that many like-minded people will come together during this period allowing them to connect without travel. As they use the internet as their tradeshow floor which in turn allows them to connect with other businesses, customers, enthusiasts, etc. to communicate in the virtual realm.

<br>The overall structure of the virtual show is much like that of an actual one. With the virtual show including a virtual exhibit hall which users can only enter with specific capabilities, codes, or permissions granted by the virtual tradeshow hosts. With different businesses/people deciding to build virtual exhibits to display information related to the products or services that they offer just as they would in an actual tradeshow venue. And with virtual tradeshow attendees coming to the virtual hall and using specific measures to attend in order to gather information or perhaps even purchase the specific products/services of the virtual exhibitors.

<br>Virtual show organizers usually use detailed tracking mechanisms to track the flow of traffic to certain virtual exhibits at the virtual tradefair itself.

<br>The virtual exhibits found in the online virtual tradeshow exhibit hall often resemble actual tradeshow exhibits you would find in the more traditional setting which is thought to allow users to relate to the exhibits easily. You will often see virtual exhibits with desks and other display technology such as large poster displays and what not. A virtual booth will also have other computer friendly tools such as several visible icons that can be used to trigger different responses such as finding out more information about a specific product, service, or the company itself. There are also usually icons present for instant communication with the exhibitor such as instant messaging or instant email. Often virtual exhibitors will also provide online videos and audio messages or at least some sort of slideshow presentation that virtual attendees can play. Sometimes virtual exhibitors will even create online avatars as a visual representation of themselves or their salesperson.

<br>Virtual tradeshows/tradefairs definitely have many different purposes and they are most likely a trend that we will see developed more and more over the years.

<br>Often these virtual tradeshows come at a fraction of the cost compared to actual real life tradeshows, which makes sense considering the logistics of the event itself, the lack of travel, the easy access from any internet port, and the lack of real life tradeshow display unit and space needed.
<br>Often more and more there is a combination of real tradeshow events with online secondary virtual events; as they are used as a great place for attendees to check out before attending, after attending, and also for those who cannot make the "live" event.

<br>Virtual tradeshows are the wave of the future when it comes to the tradeshow circuit, whether they will be held in conjunction with or eventually in replacement of some tradeshow events is yet to be unfolded. The one thing for sure is that the popularity of these events and the affordability of them is on the rise and there is a high likelihood that more and more companies will get involved in them at least on some level.
